Climate, CO2 and EPD

As a manufacturer, we are committed to ensuring and documenting that material selection, production, and
logistics are carried out in the most CO2-neutral way possible for the benefit of the future climate.

At UWR – Urban Water Retention – we take social responsibility and actively contribute to reducing CO2 emissions through innovative product development in close collaboration with our customers.

This is documented, among other things, through an EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) for the UWR System.

We do not limit our focus to production alone. We closely monitor CO2 emissions throughout the entire value chain from material selection to the completed construction project. Every single component plays a crucial role in the overall carbon footprint and environmental impact.

At the same time, we are increasingly focused on reducing microplastic emissions into rivers, lakes, and oceans, and today we offer a product range with some of the lowest microplastic emissions on the market. Such initiatives contribute to reducing environmental impact in the long term.

Material selection and production at UWR are fully traceable and documented from CO2-neutral production in Denmark to transportation to the construction site.

Recycled plastics play a crucial role in addressing climate challenges. Already today, society saves millions of tonnes of CO2 through their use – and the potential is even greater.

This requires a critical approach to raw plastic materials and their downstream applications, ensuring that the optimal properties of each material are utilized throughout the entire supply chain and into the finished project.
This not only increases CO2 savings but also preserves scarce natural resources such as gravel and sand.

In urban stormwater projects, well-designed plastic solutions are not the primary source of CO2 emissions. The largest emissions stem from the construction phase itself transport of soil and aggregates, extended construction periods with intensive machinery use, and extensive traffic diversions.

Finally, the expected lifespan of stormwater projects is a key factor in long term CO2 reduction. The longer the lifespan, the lower the climate impact and the better the project economics – benefiting both communities and
stakeholders.
